Have you ever asked yourself about things going viral? It’s so hard to tell on what is trending and what is not. “Modernity” has brought unto us many things that even some doesn’t add up. Think about hair styles: be it dreadlocks, faux locks, fluffy kinky, bob among others ……………..you name them. I know you are always shocked seeing some funny hairstyles around you but have you ever asked yourself, why?

It’s all over the websites and other sources that you know. Dread locks or “dreads” has shown the society what they are capable of. Youngsters have emerged in large numbers to bring us the picture of what they are. People say that dreads are the best hair style to have but, to me it’s something different. Is it true that musicians and celebrities love dreadz? You can keep the answer for another day but let’s be genuine about this issue.

The number of those who do dreadz has grown big and to this fact, I see it as an influential aspect because many of the youth’s majorly in campus, have decided to have their hair done that way. One thing about dreadz is that it is unisex and thereafter, does not limit anyone. You can decide to have it dyed or just with normal hair color. One also has got the privilege of styling it and at the end, you still come out looking awesome.

People like saying that those who do dreads are polite, intelligent and hardworking, but does it really add up? It has been said that ladies who do this kind of hair style are the right for marriage, is it? Where have we left the society? How many times have we dumped it and said to hell with it? It is high time we rise up and fight against this nightmare that is busy turning our minds otherwise. It’s sad when someone fails an interview because of a casual hairstyle like locks among others. Imagine going hungry because of your ugly decision.

You going home telling your mama that “mummy I had to lose that job because I really love my locks.” Are you insane or something? It is a big challenge, yes, but please take your time before you do something because it might go ugly right in your face!

Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop valuing things and prioritizing what might not help in developing our society. My siblings being sent home for fees and the only thing I can do is to look at them when I pulled down an interview because of my “locks”. Is that what you call life? It’s sad when I couldn’t help my neighbor whose kid got an accident and she didn’t even had a single penny to pay. I am sad because I was so stupid when I decided to have my hair do to be dreadlocks!

I am not looking down upon those who have dreadlocks but this is just a shout out to everyone out there. Please! Please! Please! Before you do something, have time and listen to the inner you because it might not seem important now but very some other time. Priority matters than time. And when you have it right, you will never feel as if your time got wasted. And that is why the marslows hierarchy of needs begins with basic needs and ends with self-actualization level. Because the society is really waiting for our appreciation, let’s rise up and fight this nightmare called modernity, and rather praise our mother land.
